There are great dogs, and then there are really great dogs. My buddy and my friend Odie was one of those really great dogs.
With his long legs and bouncy personality, Odie lived up to his name. Especially when his tongue hung from the corner of his mouth.
I will always remember the days when he was just a puppy and we would travel around town together looking to meet girls. He was this giant round ball of fur that would lay in my arms, and melt even the toughest of hearts.
As most dogs do, he loved to play catch. Odie had an amazing ability to use his long skinny legs much like a human arm. You would look over and see him grab and pull toys out of corners or underneath things that shouldn’t be possible for a dog. You would just look at him and say, “you know, you’re not suppose to be able to do that?” He never replied and he never cared.
Going on camping trips or to the ocean was motivation enough just to watch how excited he would get. His yelps of joy as we walked along the ocean sand will forever ring in my ears.
I know trying to explain the personality and love this one dog could emit is almost a fruitless endeavor. I’m just glad those things don’t need to be explain, but will live on in my memories.
Good-bye my friend.
“He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, and his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.”
